With the bulk of our research focused on the artist community that existed in Saint Augustine Florida during the Flagler Era, it is also important to recognize the existence of present day artists who live and create works of art in modern day Saint Augustine. One such artist is Jeanine Owen who specializes in silhouette portraiture. She has recently made here presence known on historical Saint George Street by selling black paper cutouts of individual’s silhouettes, a type of likeness art popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. Jeanine, a talkative and charming woman, explained in an informal interview that she has studied the arts of silhouette portraiture and has sold her craft as far away as Paris and Boston, and is also an accomplished glass blower.
